Let's be honest -- I would have gladly worn this outfit in third grade. Of course I would have most likely won best dressed for third grade; I judge this mainly on the basis that most 8 year olds don't wear heels and I don't have lunch crusted on my face. Now that I think about it, I'd pretty much face off with a third grader any day of the week on any topic besides Geography (simply because I realized where Hawaii was just this year and I don't own map pencils). But even as a 27 year old, it feels good to be wearing hot pink pants with a polka dot sweater AND to know where Hawaii is on a map.

Three things about silk pants: 1) constant wrinkles 2) the wind hates silk and 3) constantly worried about stains. I have banned myself from eating anything greasy today along with anything that involves ketchup or wine or blood. (Blood is such a pain to get out of silk.) It's that or eat with my pants off, which I typically wait until 5 pm to do that.

I found these pants at Anthro for $20 (down from $198. It's almost like they paid me to take them off their hands) and I bought them on a whim. The very next day I saw this image on Pinterest and was so glad I took a risk on my wide leg maxi silky sultan pants. I really don't know what to call these things.

(Excuse the weird pouts. Apparently when it's cold I make 'sexy come hither/I just ate a lemon' face.)

Same jacket as yesterday but I layered on a few other pieces as well. Rarely in Texas do I need to wear fake fur, but today I have a reason. And yes, I am regretting having bare feet. Thank you for your concern.

Last time I wore a handmade cowl, I had many comments that accoladed me on my fine ability to knit. No, friends. I can not knit. In all honesty I have trouble tying lace up shoes, so knitting doesn't happen in the Everyday household. I just have family members and talented friends that I force at gun point to make me things for free. Isn't that so sweet of them?
My shoes are in fact from Target. Cute, but not sturdy. Don't be fooled I am walking with purpose today but only because I have to concentrate on every step I take. I can see strangers taking wagers on how long before I fall or break an ankle. (Breaking an ankle would obviously be a higher wager.) Cute but not sturdy; that should be my tag line.

Well. This is what I've worked all day looks like, not the usual fresh out of the shower posts I give you. Slightly greasy hair that starts forming odd bumps throughout. Makeup that over the last 8 hours has slowly disappeared into my pores which will magically reappear in 2-5 days as an angry zit. And wrinkles, oh the wrinkles, all over. Even in places that it doesn't make sense to have wrinkle (see jacket sleeve where absolutely no body part is able to bend).
But do I still take outfit photos? Of course I do. It's part dedication, part habit, part OCD, part vanity, part crazy and a little bit of the Bieber Fever. That's what keeps me going.

I lose all track of time when it's the holidays. For the last four days I've thought it was Friday. Yesterday a lady in the shop said "isn't it Christmas Eve today?" I couldn't remember so we both stared at each other for a good and awkward 30 seconds. She left before I looked at a calendar, but the good news is that today is Friday and tomorrow is Christmas Eve. And the day after that is Christmas. With this impressive rhetoric, I could write pop songs for ambitious young girls.*
We're hitting the sky to fly home for Christmas tonight. Apparently there will be snow. Snow, family and presents -- these are my few of my favorite things.

I snagged this coat at Anthropologie over Thanksgiving weekend for an insane price of $60. I promised Bryan that I would wrap it for Christmas but somehow in all of my wrapping, it just didn't get wrapped. I hate when that happens.

I ended up actually stripping down to my underwear this morning after getting dressed because I was so angry at my hair. Granted, this is not a normal reaction to a bad hair day, but it happened. I considered re-showering and doing my hair like normal because effortless was not working for me. Who knew natural took so much effort? Also, who knew I took to streaking when I got angry?

I impulsively bought this jacket in October with some birthday cash. (I only use cash when buying inexpensive faux fur jacket, dahling.) And since then I've been working up the guts to wear it. Three Color Rule

When I was a little girl, I basically was given hand me downs every year. Which was fine by me because I'd see my sister wear something and I couldn't wait to get my little hands on it. As I was in Target yesterday I saw a mom hold up a graphic tee to her 2 year old and ask her if she'd wear that with her jeggings. The 2 year old obviously didn't care but I thought it was cute so I relayed this story to my mother in disbelief that a mom would consult her 24 month old on what she would wear.
"Well I had to give you the 3-color rule when you wear that age.""What? You gave me rules? I didn't need rules." "You would put all of these crazy colors together and I'd say 'baby, pick your three favorite colors and just wear those.' And it would work every time."
So I used that rule today. I picked my favorite three colors and went with it. I don't know if this is on Nina Garcia's style rules, but it worked for me. Thanks, mom.

Payless Style Event

It's rainy and cold here and the chance of me getting in a cute outfit today are slim. In fact, I am currently dressed like Juno, so outfit pictures might not happen today. Since today is less than glamourous, I thought I'd share some photos from last week when I jumped over to New York to attend the Payless Style Event with a few other bloggers. And by share some that just means just get ready for what will feel like a scrapbook from summer camp by a 7th grader.

Because Payless works with designers, we got to meet a few of them as well as see the Payless Design studio. The first night we met Christian Siriano and I realized in the first 5 minutes that I am not to speak to celebrities, so I simply smiled and took creepy instagram photos of him.

Wearing the Pants

Lately, I can't get enough of pants. Which is weird because if you look through my archives, you can see my slight obsession with skirts and dresses over the last two years. You see, after I hit the corporate world right after college, I didn't know a) how to dress my body and b) what to wear to the offic. One time someone told me I looked good in pants, so I stuck with it. So the sick cycle began: Corporate wear = pants from the Limited with generic top, then add cardigan. When I started styling blogging, wearing a skirt was pure freedom. I felt like a rebel every time I showed up in a cute skirt. And colored tights was the quiet equivalent of me re-enacting the 'Freedom' scene from Braveheart in the middle of the office. So it's a little surprising to me that my return to pants was so sudden, but I just can't enough. See you again in two years, skirts. (I kid. I don't like pants that much.)

American Living: Twelve Days of Giving

Every holiday season, I start to cave in. I love the holiday decorations, the Christmas music playing in every store, parties with friends and family. In other words, I start to get mushy on people and before you know I'm giving out unsolicited, lingering hugs. More than anything though, I begin to feel grateful for the people around me. So I love buying Christmas gifts for others -- it's the best way of showing how thankful I am for someone in my life.

When JC Penney's contacted me to participate in the 12 Days of Giving campaign with American Living. Their one request? Find someone and give a gift to them on behalf of American Living. Done. As I flipped through items on American Living, I stumbled upon this sweater and knew immediately who it was for.

This sweater is for my father who has not only helped me tremendously this year but has overcome a lot of obstacles over the last few years. It's one thing to look up to your dad when you are 8 years old and you only know him as your dad -- who takes you to school to every morning, fixes your flat tires, tells you he is proud of you after a basketball game that you probably lost for your team. But it's another as a grown up to look up to my dad as person and have even more love and respect for him. (Plus this is a really hip sweater and he needs a hip sweater in his closet.)

{Similar Top, Skirt, Similar Boots, Similar Socks} When I worked retail in college, I never skipped a beat when wearing heels for 8 hours a day. In fact, my senior year of college I had a bowling class before I went into work. Since I had to dress up for work, I just wore my heels to bowl because I didn't want to change outfits. Instead of wearing sneakers, I'd just bowl in my heels. I'd tell the coach that I forgot to bring socks for the bowling shoes and after a few weeks in, the coach finally gave up and let me bowl in heels. That my friends is an impressive feat on many levels. I'm still proud of that to this day. Then when I entered the professional world, my commute was from my car to my desk where I sat all day sans the occasional trip to the printer and vending machine. So wearing heels was never a problem, ever. But now that I'm on my feet all day, I've stopped bowling and let's face it my ankles aren't what they used to be, it's getting tricky trying to figure out how to make outfits work around comfortable foot gear. Also, that might be the first time the words 'foot gear' has every been used on a style blog. But I digress. All that to say, I'd like to give a shout out to my tall boots for always being there when heels are not and for prolonging the amount of time that I have to shave my legs. (PS: I got a 'B' in Bowling 1301. Still proud.)

Day Off

So I survived our first holiday weekend up at the store. (I know you were worried.) By the end of yesterday I was getting loopy from the consecutive 12 hour days. I was in bed by 7 last night, safe in my bed, away from the crowds of people, watching reruns of Sister Wives on TLC. Obviously the best way to relax after a long weekend.
Since we are closed on Mondays, today is technically my day off and this is my day off outfit. (Don't act like you don't get dolled up and put red lipstick on for your day off, too.) I'm usually in my workwear on the blog but I figured we might as well snap a few photos since I ended up getting dressed today. So just pretend I look as fancy as you today, ok?

Twenty-seven years old is an odd age when it comes to style. I'm still drawn to cute dresses but when I put them on I feel like I'm trying to look 20. Which I kind of already do in the face so cute dresses are counter-productive to my pending adulthood, especially when trying to purchase alcohol or spray paint. I feel like the only way to wear cute dresses is to toughen them up. A leather jacket is tough. But a faux leather jacket on sale at Target in the Juniors section is even tougher right? That's what I tell myself.
Also, you know those words that you say out loud or type too much and they start sounding/looking weird? The word 'tough' is really starting to freak me out. You too, 'fork'.

I've grown quite fond of plaid shirts lately. But sometimes I feel like a guy when I wear plaid. So what do I do? I put a tweed blazer over my plaid shirt, naturally. Nothing says feminine like a heavy tweed blazer.

Fossil Lookbook

Back in September, I worked with the team at Fossil on their holiday lookbook. The idea? Using the 30 for 30 remix with their holiday line. After running around the room for a solid 15 minutes giving my self high-fives, I told Fossil I was in. True to the 30 for 30, I picked out 30 pieces and styled each look. Then shot the outfits over two days. Possibly the fastest remix in style blogging history. (I do not recommend a two-day timeline for 30 outfits, just FYI.)

This was also possibly the coolest thing that I've ever done. With exception to my wedding day and winning the 6th grade science fair. (Admittedly the science fair was a big day in my life.)

It's not that I don't enjoy the feeling of not screwing up my knees forever or the lack of foot pain, but I just prefer the way heels look on an outfit. I'm such a martyr for my own vanity. However somedays in retail, as much as I fight it, are not heel days. Today is one of those days. So if I'm ever wearing flats, you know I mean business. Oh and the castle behind me? That would be my house.

{Boots, Bleubird Necklace, Tote Bag, Scarf} I went into an Anthropologie this weekend to pick up some home decor items. What did I end up walking out with? This skirt, on mega-sale. See that's the problem. I get distracted by clothing and they know that. I went in for cute drawer knobs and come out with a skirt. If the majority of what they sold was food and there was a tiny rack of clothing for sale, I would probably forget that I was hungry. My drawers didn't really need those knobs anyways. But my closet definitely needed a new skirt. That's what I'm telling myself anyways.

Pleather Please

Good news you guys, I found pleather pants. On sale. In my size. I'm almost certain I saw a light from heaven shine down on the sale rack in Gap that day, but I can't be sure. Now there are only a few downsides to pleather leggings. 1) It's hard to bend your knee, which in turn makes a lot of everyday activities difficult. Not impossible, but difficult. 2) Sweaty. I'll just leave it at that.
The only other problem is that they draw a lot of attention to your lower half. My knees haven't received this much attention since those yellow tights that looked like my jaundiced skin. Good thing I really like the shape of my knees.

Lessons in Style

Mainly because it's t-shirt material and while t-shirts look good on my top half, they don't always look good on my bottom half. Really when I stretch any type of thin material from my top to my bottom, I'm going to feel iffy about it, especially when I eat or sit. Two of my favorite things to do. The solution: layers. I've put so many layers I bet you didn't even realize that there was a dress under there. So what did we learn today? When in doubt, layer. Class dismissed. (Bonus points for any answer involving 'Spanx'.)

A perfectly lemon colored sweater. When life gives you lemons...make an outfit. That's how the saying goes; I'm 84% sure that's right.

Monday mornings always catch me off guard. I sit down at my computer to write and...nothing. Absolutely nothing comes to mind. So today I will write about nothing. Just like I do every other day, but today I'm acutely aware of it.
When I bought this skirt (yes, from myself) I wasn't sure of it's remixability. But I'll be darned if I can't remix this beautiful thing. I have figured out that if it's a complicated piece then just go simple everywhere else. For instance, the first time I paired it with white and now with black. Next time -- probably grey or beige. Who knows? I'm so unpredictable.
(PS -- many have asked about bloom selling online. Right now the answer is no but maybe in the future sometime? Well then. That should answer all your questions.)

I hadn't been thrifting since I left Kerrville. (A crying shame, right?) Jentine of My Edit has this thing called 'This Week I Thrifted...' and while I was reading I remembered that I have yet to go thrifting in my new town. While I'm no Jentine when it comes to thrifting, I can ususally find a thirft store gem every once in a while. And by gem I mean this blue suede skirt I'm wearing. Exactly what I wasn't looking for. Simple economics really. Plus I'm a tight wad when it comes to the salon. I'd just rather buy a shirt than get a haircut. Yesterday was my b-day. I turned the ripe old age of 27. I also cut a wisdom tooth. 27 years later and I'm still teething. I think puberty is just around the corner.

Well I knew this day would come -- I had to retire my old faithful Steve Madden boots. Resoled or not, they were getting nasty. Three years of wear, three years of memories. I'm tearing up over here. I was pretty certain that I would buy the same ones again but then I found this pair. And as sad as I was to give them away, my sadness immediately cleared when I slipped this pair on. If Kate Middleton could be a shoe, I think it would be these boots. Is love to strong of a word to use for shoes? What about best friend or dream come true?

On the day that I decided to straighten my new hair, it mists and fogs. But the good news is it made for some pretty/creepy photos. Pretty and creepy is my speciality after all, so I'm pretty pleased. Even if my hair frizzed up five minutes after this photo.
Usually I'm better at posting early on Monday mornings but this weekend was bananas. We shot a wedding in New Orleans on Saturday and then ended up back at the shop yesterday, needless to say outfit photos did not happen. I need to throw this out there: how do celebrities always look so put together while traveling? I look o.k. going onto a plane and then by the end of a 70-minute flight I look a hot mess. I'm sweaty, my hair is disheveled, I have stains on my shirt, I've lost a shoe. Okay so maybe every morning is a foggy morning for me.

The Trouble with Mustard Pants

I hate to admit this but mustard pants are kind of hard to style. I thought "no biggie" when I bought them because I've previously owned a mustard colored skirt which was a cinch to style. But pants -- pants are completely different than skirts. (Yes, feel free to quote me on that.) So I just decided to go the easy route and pair it with a blouse that had a similar color. And by easy I mean I thought about this outfit for a good 30 minutes before leaving the house.

Also, this outfit reminds me of Arrested Development. Why you say? Because there is always money in the banana stand. And I kind of feel like a banana.

Go with the Flow

But once an outfit happens, it happens. There is not turning back. Also, yesterday was laundry day so really there was no turning back. If you hear me say one thing, it is this: buy a nice cream, white or ivory blouse that goes with everything. Do you hear me? I've worn this guy countless of times. It's soft, transitional, remixable. He listens to my problems, doesn't judge me when I eat a whole box of cookies. We're practically best friends. Moral of that weird story: a neutral blouse goes a long way.

My mother bought me this skirt. Mainly because it was a buy one, get one half-off deal and she had an odd number. BUT I'm also going to say that it's because she loves me and because I looked it longingly while she shopped for herself and then I threw myself on the ground until she agreed. I typically don't push items ever but this might be the best skirt in the world. It's long enough so I can bend over if necessary, it doesn't give me a muffin top, it has animal print -- the list goes on. Best skirt ever.

I had the best of intentions this week to blog an outfit everyday. And then this week happened. Do you ever have a string of days where nothing looks right on? Every morning I wake up with a great outfit in mind and then it looks like a third grader dressed me. (No offense to the 8 years olds out there. Keep shining, kiddos.) There is currently a 2 foot pile of clothing in my closet waiting to be hung back up and apolgized to for all of the curse words I've said to them this week. Total Knock Off

So yesterday was my day off by default since we are closed on Monday. You see, your Saturday is my Monday. What I'd like to do with my time off is sit around, eat chocolate and watch Jersey Shore all day, but that outfit consists of sticky sweat pants and a tank top. Cute, but not quite blogworthy. Luckily, instead of wasting time and muscle mass yesterday I ended up with a styling gig to help a friend style her closet. Since I've never been a stylist before (that's right, I've done it one time now I think I'm a stylist. Too soon?) I had no idea what to wear. And when I don't know what to wear I go to my handy-dandy Pinterest and file through until I find something to knock off completely. And now you know my secret to style -- knocking off everyone I see.

I found my sweater this summer at J.Crew for $20. The obviously didn't sell in Texas this summer because they resembled well... a sweater. There are only a few things that don't sell well in Texas in the summer: hot cocoa and sweaters. Lucky for me, I like both. I was wise enough to look past the 100 degree weather and I snagged this gem up in a heartbeat. Yesterday was rainy and cool and I was finally able to bust out my first sweater of the fall. Does this mean boots are next? Dare to dream, right? Dare to dream.

Only three photos today because we got caught. Usually I don't mind people that walk by, typically it's one look and they are gone. But we had a stage five clinger today. And then she told us 'good luck' and walked away. I guess she knew the shoot wasn't going well.

Thought I'd mix it up today, go a bit more casual. Wednesday seemed like a good day to be casual and these pants feel like pajama jeans. Psuedo-pajama jeans on a Wednesday? No wonder that lady wanted to talk to me.

It was a 99 cent book of stickers and I of course got caught. Only because I wasn't sly yet, that came later in life, about third grade to be exact. (As did my swagger.) Anyways, I'm still not much of a thief unless it comes to outfits and then I have no mercy. Yesterday a girl breezed through the store and sans the scarf, this is her exact outfit. This might be the easiest outfit I've never thought up. Like stealing candy from a baby, which I did yesterday as well. It's just so easy.

It feels like summer outside still, which you can't complain about honestly. Unless you really want to wear fall clothes and boots. I've never checked the weather so much in my life. Mainly because in my mind there are two types of weather: sandal weather and boots weather. We are still in sandal weather, people. Although I did see one girl yesterday rocking the tall boots and jeans. While she was probably sweaty, I salute you tall boot girl.

Finish your homework fast for there's a feast of films waiting.

Films take you to fantasy land. Some also come with an inspiration filled core. There is a movie for every audience, a “Free Willy” for an animal lover and “Wall-E” for a space buff.

The season ahead has loads of must-watch films coming your way starting with “Dolphin Tale”.

Releasing worldwide on September 23, this movie is based on a real story of a brave Dolphin and some compassionate strangers who get together to save the severely hurt and trapped dolphin named Winter. The dolphin loses its tail and other incidents follow. The movie stars Ashley Judd and others and is directed by Charles Martin Smith.

Come October and three more releases follow. “Real Steel” releasing October 7 is an American sci-fi flick. Want to see animatronic robots in a brawl? The film is based on a 1956 short story “Steel” by Richard Matheson. The movie starrs Hugh Jackman and is directed by Shawn Levy.

For the have-feet-will-dance students, there is “Footloose”, for an out an out dance experience.

A remake of the 1984 movie by the same name, the story revolves around a boy from Boston and his travails in a small town where dancing and loud music are banned. Kenny Wormald, who plays the lead role, is a choreographer in real life too.

Dumas is back

For all the book worms, here is a visual treat. Remember Athos, Porthos and Aramis?

Well, Alexander Dumas' novel returns in an action movie avatar of “The Three Musketeers”. With a spectacular star cast that includes Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans, Logan Lerman and Milla Jovovich, this is one action adventure you don't want to miss.

November is the time to meet “Kitty Softpaws” and “Puss in Boots.” An adorable cat who is good at sword fight, this is “Puss in Boots” for you. The voice over is by Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek.

And finally make way for the dancing penguin who returns. And how? “Happy Feet 2”, will be released in the 3 D format on November 18.

Folks, put your hands together for the talented Mumble who jives to LL Cool J this time around. Wrap up your studies and homework quickly and wait for a season of great films ahead.

You didn't miss much Tuesday or Wednesday as I pretty much wore the same uniform I've been wearing all week -- a v-neck, jeans and greasy hair. HOT. I was going to name this post 'Candy Striper' but I decided it looked too much like 'candy stripper.' Which was my old identity that I'd like to keep in the past, of course. 'Hot Pants' is way more appropriate and not stripper related at all.

I wore this outfit on Saturday night on a date. To the mall. With all of the other 14 year olds who have nowhere else to go with their love interests. I'm pretty sure we are running out of date ideas when we end up at a mall, but on the flip side I got to see the new H&M in Dallas. But on the other flip side, if this is 4 years in, what will dates look like in 10 years? Oh no, it's happening. All of a sudden all I want for my anniversary is a washer and dryer set... and a hug. And maybe a candle, if it's not asking too much.

When Bobbi Brown Cosmetics approached me about their campaign 'Pretty & Powerful' one woman came to mind: my mother. My mother is undoubtedly a beautiful woman. As a little girl, I remember staring at my mom hoping to look just like her when I grew up. But my mother chose a long time ago to be something other than just a pretty girl. She chose to be strong, gracious and powerful.

Growing up, my mom would remind me of one thing: "be who you are." May it have been encouraging because I was the weirdest kid on the playground, or grounding because I was the most popular girl in class, she always quietly reminded me to be true to myself. But more than her words, I followed her actions. My mother doesn't change; she stays the same each and every year. No matter what the circumstance -- be it happy, sad or downright life shattering, my mother exudes a quiet power in every situation. My mother is pretty and powerful and I couldn't be more proud to be her daughter.

It hit me last night as I was watching 'Storage Wars' and playing a crossword, that fashion week is happening a million miles away. And for a second I thought I was in the wrong place. I should most certainly be in a pretty dress in NYC, drooling over runway style and stalking Anna Wintour. Right?
And then this post happened. Instead of an 'arm party' I've got an old hair tie on my wrist for when my hair inevitably decides to turn against me. Then as I was labeling my outfit, I had to google Calvin Klein's name to make sure I spelled it right. (I didn't.) Perhaps on my couch playing crosswords is right where I'm meant to be.
As you can see, in honor of the missed Missoni event at Target (Missedoni?) I wore my thrifted knock off sweater vest version of Missoni. Thrifted and a knock off? Oh girl you are too much.

One of the first things I look for in a new place of residence is a good wine bar and the nearest Target. You may think 'hospital' or 'police station' but no, for me it's a good time over healthcare or safety. Which I figure will only last me through my twenties. Once I hit 30, my responsibility gene will kick in. Right? Isn't that how it works? And then I will have kids. Or is it kids, then responsibility? This might be why we've yet to venture into parenthood.

All that to say, two weeks in town and we've found ourselves a wine bar and 2 Targets within a 15 miles radius. As if I need another reason to wake up and get dressed everyday.

(PS -- did anyone end up at a Target today for the Missoni collection? Have missed it? Did you buy it all before I could get my grubby hands on it?)

Today I feel classy. It could be the fact that when I sit down or get out of a car, I don't have to worry about showing the world everything I own. It could also be the fact that I barely showered all weekend and today I did. (Don't judge. You do it too, nasty.) A shower and a long dress equals instant class. You can see why I was not invited to the Royal Wedding, no?
So I got a new 'B' necklace. Yes, B is for my husband. Yes, I am a sap. Can you blame me?

Yes, I did just name this post after a questionable Black Eyed Pea album. Because that's where my brain goes when I'm tired. It goes to the dark side that is Top 40 radio of 2003. Don't phunk with my heart.
New things I've learned this week: it is possible to cover up tired with concealer. Five layers of three different types of concealer to be exact and I look like a human again. Which coincidentally is the same as the cups of coffee I need to drink every day just to be able to speak. I think five is my new lucky number.
And ss if my shirt didn't have enough elephants for you, I wore my elephant necklace from my great Aunt Murl. No, not Merl, my other great aunt who also provides jewelry to young bloggers. This can be confusing, I know.

You may notice that my hair grew over night. But really this is an outfit from before we left our little town, obviously before the new big city hair. Glad I had it on hand as today I'm in t-shirt and shorts that I may or may not have slept in, not quite blog worthy.

Am I alone in this or did you used to pine over new loafers for school? Just me, eh? I loved a new pair of loafers. There was just something about going into third grade that made me want to be an 80 year old man. While these are a much hipper version, I'm getting a little nostalic for my annual pair of loafers. Except it's 15 years later and I'm not pairing them with colored tube socks. Yet.
